Story: Everything's perfect for 24-year-old Tania (Esha Deol) -- an iconic teen writer with a perfect mom, dad and a boyfriend. Or so it seems... for Tania is on the look out for her identity. Where do my roots lie, wonders the adopted Tania, as she finally sets out in search of her biological parents. And find she does, but...
Movie Review: Hema Malini is back. And so is Esha Deol... with just one question: 'tell me O Kkhuda'. But five minutes into the movie and you realise there are a zillion questions teen writer Tania has for her creator when one fine day she finds out her whereabouts: Who am I? What am I? Where are my real parents? Why did my present mom and dad adopt me? Do I have an identity? Will I ever live respectfully? Is my life a waste?.... Naturally then, Tania sets out in search of her real parents, right from Pratapgarh to Turkey and then Goa. Of course, all this and more, courtesy her foster parents (Farooq Sheikh and Deepti Naval), her boyfriend (Arjun Bajwa) and Johnny Lever (as the Municipal guy).
But then finding daddy ain't any easy task in Bollywood. Especially when all you have is your own hospital baby tag as a symbol of identification. Enter Daddy No.1 -- Maharaja Abhay Pratap (Vinod Khanna). All it takes for the girl on the hunt to realise he's not her biological dad is a camel race and a spiel on why should boys have all the fun. Cut to Daddy No.2, Altaf Zardari (Rishi Kapoor), a successful tycoon in Turkey. This time treating his recluse wife is the cost Tania pays to realise she's on the wrong track. And finally it's Daddy No.3, Tony ( Dharmendra) who's calling the shots in the Goan underworld. So who's actually the real daddy? By then end of it all, you really don't care...
More so since veterans in here seem to be totally out of sync. Blame the script. While Vinod Khanna just about manages to pull off a royal show, Rishi Kapoor, Farooq Sheikh, Deepti Naval and Hema Malini lose out on screen time and dialogues in this maze of a search. Finally, it's Johnny Lever who does manage to tickle the funny bone to some extent, followed by Arjun Bajwa -- the latter not so much for standing out amongst the stalwarts but for putting up with his girl in the lets-find-my-daddy trail...
Now why must Hema chose to re-make her first forgettable directorial venture, Dil Aashna Hai with daughter Esha? Surely she deserves better. |
